Earthbag garden shed for New Farm Institute

The New Farm Institute at Green Gate Farms is a newly-established nonprofit in Austin Texas with the mission to educate, assist and inspire a new generation of sustainable farmers, with a focus on the urban fringe – an area defined as within 30 miles of medium to large cities. In this difficult time of extreme drought small agricultural non-profits such as The New Farm Institute are hit very hard. To help out the Institute the Austin Chapter of Architecture for Humanity will construct an earthbag shed to provide a secure location to store their tools.

Art project collaboration with AFH national

We have been tapped to collaborate with a sponsor and AFH national on a crowd-sourced art project that will be installed at a site in Austin that has a connection with AFH. We are looking for ideas, and quick, for a site and art that can respond to it. Please email ken@afhaustin.org or austin@architectureforhumanity.org to help with the brainstorming. This is due in 2 DAYS - 4/12/13! Let's get something great for Austin!

AFH volunteers - Thank you for your generosity in 2011 and I hope that we will continue to work on great projects together in 2012! A couple quick updates on the earthbag front - 1. The SFI shed is substantially complete! Doors are on and shelves are hung! The plaster needs to be touched up in a few places, but the shed is functional and being put to use.
